Seneca Lake Wine Trail

Seneca Lake Wine Trail Finger Lakes

If the Cayuga Lake Wine Trail whetted your appetite, the Seneca Lake Wine Trail is the next logical step — and it’s a big one. This is the largest and most visited wine trail in the entire Finger Lakes region. Furthermore, it wraps around 70-plus miles of Seneca Lake shoreline. In total, it’s home to over 30 member wineries — more than any other Finger Lake trail.

Seneca Lake is the deepest of the Finger Lakes, reaching over 600 feet in places. That depth creates a unique thermal effect. Specifically, the lake acts like a giant radiator, moderating winter temperatures and cooling warm summers. As a result, the grapes here ripen slowly and evenly, producing wines with naturally higher acidity and lower alcohol. They’re food-friendly, expressive, and genuinely world-class. Riesling is the signature — some of the best in the country comes from these shores. But Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Gewürztraminer, and even unusual varieties like Saperavi and Lemberger thrive here too.

The trail suits every kind of wine lover. Three Brothers, for instance, offers three separate tasting rooms and a brewery on one sprawling estate — playful, diverse, and easy to spend a full afternoon at. Wagner Vineyards, meanwhile, combines a vineyard, brewery, restaurant, and gift shop in one spot. Standing Stone Vineyards sits perched high above the lake with some of the best views on the trail. Similarly, Lamoreaux Landing suits those who want serious, cellar-worthy wines. And Belhurst Castle in Geneva takes things to another level entirely — a stunning historic castle with award-winning wines, two restaurants, and a hotel.

The trail runs year-round, with most tasting rooms open daily from around 11am. Additionally, events run throughout the season — from spring sip weekends to harvest festivals and holiday tastings. Plan your stops in advance and designate a driver. This is the kind of day that has a habit of running pleasantly long.
