Skaneateles Brewery

Skaneateles Brewery

Just a five minute drive — or a very pleasant bike ride — from the village centre, Skaneateles Brewery sits alongside Skaneateles Creek on Mill Road. The setting alone makes it worth the trip.

The building has had many lives. Over the years it has served as a grist mill, a paper mill, a sailboat factory, and a ceramic tile operation. Today it’s home to a small-batch craft brewery and taproom. Furthermore, it feels like it was always meant to end up here. The creek runs alongside. The building has real character. And the whole place carries a warmth that’s immediately apparent the moment you walk in.

The brewery opened in December 2019 as the passion project of a small group of friends who spotted the potential in the old mill. Head brewer Chris brings over a decade of experience to the taps. His philosophy centres on drinkability — beers that invite another sip, using local and New York-grown ingredients wherever possible. The range spans hoppy IPAs, smooth ales, crisp lagers, and complex sours. Additionally, seasonal specials rotate throughout the year. The Major Trail Brown Ale took home a Gold Medal at the New York State Craft Brewers’ Association Annual Competition. Flights are therefore a great way to work through the options.

The outdoor beer garden is one of the best things about the brewery. It offers picnic tables, propane heaters for cooler evenings, and a relaxed community atmosphere. Food trucks pull in regularly — check the website for the schedule. If there’s no truck on the day, meanwhile, you’re welcome to bring your own food or order from a list of local restaurants. Dogs are welcome too. So are kids.

Furthermore, the brewery shares its building with Last Shot Distillery. So spirits lovers aren’t left out either.

Find them at 4022 Mill Road, Skaneateles. They’re open Thursday and Friday from 3:30pm, Saturday from noon, and Sunday from noon to 6pm.
