Ask any local in Skaneateles where to eat and Gilda’s will come up pretty quickly. Since opening in 2013, it has earned a reputation as one of the best spots in the village. And honestly, it’s easy to see why once you’ve been.
The focus here is handcrafted artisan pizzas and small plates. Crucially, the kitchen does both with real care and attention. The pizzas are the kind that make you reconsider everything you thought you knew about pizza. Think perfectly blistered crust, quality ingredients, and creative combinations that actually work. Everything from the sausage to the meatballs is made on premise, and you can taste the difference.
But don’t sleep on the small plates. The veal meatballs have developed something of a cult following. Similarly, the roasted brussels sprouts are the kind that convert people who claim they don’t like brussels sprouts. The arancini are also the perfect thing to order while you figure out what else you want. Dishes arrive as they’re ready, which keeps things relaxed and social — the kind of meal that stretches out in the best way.
The room itself is small and cozy. It has a warm, unpretentious feel — dark wood floors, a clean white bar, and just enough buzz on a busy night to make it feel alive. Moreover, the staff have a way of making you feel like a regular even on your first visit. Wednesday nights are worth noting too — half-priced wine makes an already good evening even better.
Gilda’s is at 12 West Genesee Street. They’re open evenings Monday through Friday from 4pm. Additionally, lunch runs on Saturdays and Sundays from 11:30am. Walk-ins are welcome for smaller parties, but reservations are available for groups of five to eight — call ahead on (315) 685-7234.
