Every good village needs a proper pub. And Skaneateles has one in the LakeHouse. It’s anchored by a beautiful copper-topped bar and a reliably lively atmosphere. Furthermore, it’s the kind of place that feels like it’s been there forever — welcoming, unpretentious, and exactly what you want when you’re looking for good food, a cold drink, and somewhere to actually relax.
Dennis Coleman of Coleman’s Authentic Irish Pub fame owns the LakeHouse alongside local partners Joseph Goethe and Michael Wamp. The pub sits right on West Genesee Street in the heart of the village. It occupies the former Morris’s Grill site and carries that same neighbourhood-establishment energy. As a result, it draws an easy mix of locals and visitors without feeling like it belongs to either group exclusively.
The food is pub done right. The Beef on Weck has developed a devoted following — juicy, tender roast beef piled onto a perfectly salted, caraway-seeded Kimmelwick roll with horseradish and au jus on the side. It’s one of those dishes that keeps people coming back visit after visit. The shrimp tacos, nachos, buffalo chicken tenders, and the pub salad are all solid options too. Moreover, the menu is the kind of thing you can graze through happily over a couple of rounds.
One genuinely useful thing to know about the LakeHouse is that it stays open later than almost anywhere else in Skaneateles. When the rest of the village has called it a night, this is where you end up. Additionally, takeout is available, which makes it a handy option if you’re heading down to the lake for the evening.
Find them at 6 West Genesee Street. They’re open seven days a week from noon. Note that it’s 21 and over only after 8pm Monday through Saturday, and after 5pm on Sundays.
